This past Saturday July 18th, Stephanie Hill Photography had the pleasure of participating in the Illumination Foundation's Carnival for Kids annual event at La Palma Park in Anaheim. "The Illumination Foundation (IF) is a non-profit, non-denominational, grassroots organization with a mission to bridge the gap in existing services for the underserved to break or prevent the cycle of homelessness." When I heard about Carnival for Kids to benefit homeless families in Orange County I knew in my heart I must be apart of this amazing day. Illumination Foundation along with many, many sponsors gave hundreds of families in need a day of pure joy and fun, with rides, games, food, face painting, shows by performers and a petting zoo just to name a few things; and Stephanie Hill Photography was there to capture all of the magic and love. I was so warmly welcomed and even more so I came to find out quite highly anticipated... no pressure right?? :-) I had such a blast talking with families and asking kids to pose for pictures with their siblings and friends. I was extremely thankful early on for the overcast weather as to not have to fight the blaring sun all day, this soon turned to sprinkles, however, and then rain... Undeterred I grabbed an umbrella from my car and got right back to making rounds around the carnival with my Canon. On several occasions team members of Illumination Foundation and an amazing team member from the Disneyland tent snuck up on me to assist as I was shooting with one hand and holding my umbrella with the other. It was a day of warmth (even the weather, despite the rain) love, fun, joy and teamwork coming together to tackle an all too real of an issue in Orange County. I'm blessed to have been a part of the magical day and I look forward to working with the Illumination Foundation again in the near future.
